Winter Skin Care for Mature Women

Posted by Bennie on 11/11/2014

Okay, I get it. We all want to age gracefully, don’t we? After all, being happy and comfortable with who we are is much better than fighting ourselves at each step of our journey. However, this self acceptance does not mean we cannot take good care of ourselves. No, it means we deserve to take care of ourselves so that we are best prepared to accept.

One area where we mature women need to give extra attention is to our skin with a special attention being paid during the colder months. It is in the winter that our skin dries out, is buffeted by wind, and is quite possibly exposed to all sorts of reflected sun rays.

Clean Your Skin

The first step to keeping your skin healthy and beautiful in the winter is cleaning it every morning and evening. Your evening face cleansing needs to remove all makeup from your face. That said, you cannot afford to use a cleanser that is so harsh that it removes your face’s essential oils. When selecting the right cleanser for your skin type and lifestyle, you ought to talk to a professional.

Moisturize with Oil

In the winter, we need to moisturize with an oil-based moisturizer rather than a water-based one. The former will coat your skin with a layer that keeps moisture within your skin. Of course, you need to go with a natural oil such as Shea oil, Primose oil, or avocado oil instead of a petroleum-based oil. Make sure you moisturize your face each time after you cleanse your skin.

Sun Screen

Yes, the sun is still a threat in the winter. This is especially true if you ski, snowboard, or simply live in a snowy region since the sun’s rays bounce off the snow and right onto your skin. This means that the sun will be hitting your face from all angles.

You can protect your skin from the sun with hats, sunglasses, gloves, and sunscreen. When selecting a sunscreen get one that has at least 15 SPF and apply it to your exposed skin about half an hour before you head outside.

Ditch the Booze

Alcohol will dry out your inners and exterior quick, quick, quick. If you are going to spend any real amount of time outside, you ought to skip the alcoholic drinks in order to protect your skin.
